Pablo Bascur Resume
shim

Economist,
BS in Business
Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Mr.Bascur has dedicated 35 years to molybdenum marketing, including executive positions at Codelco (serving for 10 years in two periods) and at Molymet (15 years). He has also provided consultancy and brokerage services for 10 years.

During his period at Molymet 1976-1991, he was Marketing Vice-President, responsible for the commercial area: concentrates supply contracts, both on toll conversions as well as purchases and sales of resulting products; sales of moly oxides, ferromolybdenum and rhenium.

During his term he leaded the evolution of the company’s business from a local Chilean converter, processing only Codelco’s moly concentrates, to a well established international converter, with a wide base of moly concentrates supply from all over the world.

He started Molymet’s sales of rhenium metal directly to the aircraft engine manufacturers in the early 80’s and Molymet then became world leader of that market. He also initiated Molymet’s worldwide marketing of chemically purified molybdenum products in the late 80’s.

From 1992 to 2000, Mr. Bascur established his company, Inversiones y Comercio ICPB Ltda., and provided consultant services to producers as well as brokerage services to moly trading companies. He was agent in Chile for Derek Raphael & Co, DRC, the largest molybdenum trader based in UK, and Phibro Energy for copper and other commodities business. These activities were stopped in 2000, when Mr. Bascur was invited to join Codelco´s executive team.

From 2000 to 2005 Mr. Bascur was appointed Codelco’s Executive Vice-president for Molybdenum sales (including also sales of sulphuric acid and gold and silver bearing anodic slimes). In 2005, Codelco became world largest moly producer and molybdenum sales reported US$ 2 billion profits for Codelco that year.

After leaving Codelco in 2005, Mr. Bascur restarted his own company to provide expert consulting services in the moly field, as well as brokerage services. From mid 2006 to first half 2008 he was representative agent for COMSUP Commodities Inc. in South America.

Lately Mr. Bascur has restarted his independent consultant activities as moly market expert. He is the author of “Moly Market Vision”, a deep analysis and projection of world moly market which was sold in 2005 to large moly market participants in three continents. As Molybdenum market expert, Mr. Bascur has been a guest speaker at several international molybdenum conferences in USA and China. The last one was in Xian, China, in March 2009. Interviews and his opinion as expert in molybdenum market have been quoted in Metal Bulletin, Platt’s Metals Week and The Wall Street Journal among other media.
